My name is Itumeleng Lehomo, I am 30 years old and currently live in Brummeria, PTA. I am an Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls Alumni. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sport Development from the University of Johannesburg in 2015. In 2016 I enrolled for my Bachelor of Education, focusing on the Senior and Further Education Training Phase, through the University of South Africa during that period I started a teaching internship at St Dunstan’s College in Benoni under the guidance of Dr S. Whitelaw. My teaching subjects are History and English. In my 4 years and 6 months that I was at St Dunstan’s College I have taught (under supervision) grade 8 and 9 History and as of 2020 Digital Literacy for Grade 9 focusing on Google Suite. I have always felt that Sports and formal education can work hand in hand to help learners succeed in life and hence after completing my BA Sport Development I enrolled for my Bachelor of Education. Being a kinetic leaner myself, sport allowed me to come up with techniques to learn and remember information taught to me in the classroom that I would have otherwise forgotten. History was one of my favourite subjects in school and I was naturally drawn to it as one of my teaching subjects. I love and enjoy the challenges that come with being an aspiring teacher in today’s society. The time I have spent at St Dunstan’s College has allowed me to learn from people teaching different subjects; who have being in the profession for years. My time at St Dunstan’s allowed me to learn different techniques of teaching, ways to adapt to suit the learner’s needs and to work with the learners to help them achieve the best results possible.
